Summary of 6 listed contractors for septic tank emptying in norfolk

Who covers Norfolk

Norfolk is a big county with a lot of private drainage, from Broads villages and coastal chalets to farmhouses in Breckland. Our listed firms split the county between them, so start with the one nearest you.

East Anglian Tankering Services works from Smallburgh, between Stalham and North Walsham, and names towns from Cromer and Mundesley to Great Yarmouth and the north side of Norwich. It empties septic tanks, cesspits and pump chambers and maintains treatment plants. C.G. Duffield & Son, a family firm near Watton with three tankers, covers about 25 miles across South Norfolk, including Dereham, Swaffham and Attleborough, and inspects tanks for house sales. Go Tankers, on the Suffolk side at Beccles, empties, services, repairs and installs systems across East Anglia. Greenwoods, from Hitcham in Suffolk, and Owls Hall Environmental, from Braintree, both name Norfolk too. Euroloo has pages for Norwich and Dereham.

Which firm for which job

On the coast and in the Broads, East Anglian Tankering is closest for most addresses. In mid and South Norfolk, Duffield is the local family option, and its sale inspections help buyers. Near the Waveney, Go Tankers is a short drive and can service a treatment plant as well as empty it. For a new treatment plant or a full replacement, Owls Hall and Go Tankers both install.

Cesspits are common here

Many older Norfolk properties have a cesspit, a sealed tank with no outlet, rather than a septic tank. A cesspit fills completely and can need emptying every few weeks, so a regular collection arranged in advance is usually cheaper than calling for each load. See our cesspit emptying page for how that differs from a septic tank.

Rules and councils

Norfolk follows the Environment Agency general binding rules. Septic tanks must discharge to a drainage field rather than a watercourse, and the Broads and its rivers are sensitive to pollution. Building control is split between Breckland, Broadland, Great Yarmouth, King's Lynn and West Norfolk, North Norfolk, South Norfolk and Norwich City councils, depending on your address.
