Who covers Cornwall
Cornwall has tens of thousands of private sewage systems, from farmhouses to holiday cottages, and the demand peaks in summer when lets fill up. All of our listed firms are Cornish except Euroloo, which runs a national network with pages for Truro and Bodmin.
Carnon Valley Transport, a family firm at Carnon Downs since 1986, empties tanks and also services treatment plants, Monday to Friday. Pellows, at Old Carnon Hill in the same village, has more than 60 years in waste and a 24 hour line, and can follow an empty with a CCTV survey or drain clearance. Leaders, run by Louise and Mike Leader from Camborne, sticks to emptying across west Cornwall and includes a reminder service. Berridge Environmental, a small family business around Bodmin, took over a long running local round and also works into parts of Devon.
Which firm for which job
West of Truro, Leaders names more towns than anyone, from Lands End and The Lizard to St Ives and Perranporth. Around Truro and Falmouth, Carnon Valley suits planned visits, especially for treatment plants that need servicing. For an urgent overflow at a weekend, try Pellows first because of its 24 hour line. In mid and north Cornwall, Berridge is the local option near Bodmin.
Carnon Valley and Pellows share a postcode at Carnon Downs. We have not found a statement that they are connected, so treat them as separate businesses and ask if it matters to you.
Holiday lets, lanes and timing
If you run a holiday let, book the empty for spring or autumn, before and after the busy weeks, rather than waiting for a full tank in August. Tell the firm about narrow lanes, steep drives and low bridges when you book. Cornish tankers are often smaller for this reason, but each firm decides what it can reach.
Rules that apply
Cornwall follows the Environment Agency general binding rules for England. A septic tank must discharge to a drainage field, not a watercourse, and any sludge must go with a registered waste carrier. Cornwall Council handles building control for new systems. Near beaches, rivers and protected sites, ask the contractor whether your system meets the rules before a sale or change of use.
